At the ongoing IFA 2018 electronics show, Huawei yesterday introduced us to the world’s first-ever 7nm Kirin 980 processor and announced that the Mate 20 lineup, launching on October 16 in London, will be the first set of devices to be powered by the same.
An eagle-eyed attendee, Spanish blog teknofilo, appears to have spotted the company’s upcoming flagship and feasted us with a number of live shots of the rumored Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro in the hands of a Huawei representative (given the Huawei wristband) from the IFA show floor.
If you take a look at the images below, you will notice that these are close-up and quite detailed and give us a good look at the camera setup- even though it was being heavily guarded by the thick case all around it.
The major feature that instantly tells us that it could be the Mate 20 Pro with the massive triple-camera setup (first seen on the Huawei P20 Pro) at the rear. The 3 sensors are arranged in a square module, falling in line with a recent leak that showed off a render with an exact same placement.
There’s currently no word on the specs of the camera sensor aboard the Mate 20 series, however, this leak gives XDA’s renders some form of credibility. Other photos, attached below, further reveal that there’s nothing on the rear except for the camera. This means that Mate 20 Pro (at least) could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The flagship series is also said to be coming with the trendy new waterdrop notch, which we’ve now come to adore, even though we don’t see it in the real-life image here. We do not get a good look at the front of the device as it is covered in that thick case, however, that small cutout (possibly for enabling a Quick Glance UI) exposes the curved glass and earpiece.
We also get a look at the USB-C port and SIM or microSD card slot next to it at the bottom, with no speaker grill and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. Do you think this indicative of the fact that Mate 20 would feature front-facing stereo speakers? Well, we’ll have to wait for the official launch to find out.
Apart from this, the Mate 20 series is expected to feature a 6.3-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen, a glass sandwich design, wireless charging, Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box, and a 4,200 battery pack. What are your opinions on the Mate 20 series? Let us know in the comments below.
