‘Flip to Shhh’ is a Digital Wellbeing feature which could arrive with the Pixel 3

• At Google I/O in May, Google announced a “Shush” mode within Digital Wellbeing.
• However, Shush never made it to the Digital Wellbeing release, which is still in beta.
• It appears that Shush — possibly monikered “Flip to Shhh” — is already in Digital Wellbeing, just not active. Could it launch with the Pixel 3?

When Google announced Digital Wellbeing at Google I/O 2018, the company described many of the toolset’s features, such as Wind Down, an updated Do Not Disturb mode, the Dashboard, etc. However, one of the features Google discussed never made it to the Digital Wellbeing beta.

That feature — called “Shush” at Google I/O — appears to actually already be in Digital Wellbeing. Unfortunately, it’s simply inactive.

The point of Shush is to give you an easy way to put your phone into Do Not Disturb mode, simply by placing the device face-down on a flat surface. When you lift up the phone, Do Not Disturb automatically turns off, which is certainly a nifty trick (even if Motorola already did it with Moto Actions).

According to XDA Developers, this Shush feature — possibly monikered “Flip to Shhh” instead of “Shush” — is hidden inside the latest beta version of Digital Wellbeing. With root access, you can activate Flip to Shhh and even use it. Unfortunately, a reboot re-hides the feature, so it’s not exactly practical quite yet.

With the Google Pixel 3 event right around the corner, is it possible that Flip to Shhh is going to launch with the Pixel 3? Since the Google Pixel 3 XL already has been leaked so much, at this point Google might be looking to announce whatever it can that the smartphone industry hasn’t already heard or seen.

Even if Flip to Shhh doesn’t launch with the Pixel 3 and instead rolls out on its own to a future Digital Wellbeing update, it’s still a cool feature that we’re excited to use.
