What’s the best location for a fingerprint sensor? (Poll of the Week)

Android Authority

Last week’s poll summary: Out of over 1,300 total votes, 44 percent of our readers said they don’t play graphic-intensive games on their smartphones. 30.4 percent of our readers said they only play high-performance games occasionally, while 24.8 percent of voters said high-performance gaming is very important to them. Surprisingly, the results were just about the same on our YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram polls.

Two years ago, we asked you which is the best location for a fingerprint sensor — on the front, back, or side of a smartphone. About half of our audience voted for rear-facing fingerprint sensors, while 37 percent of voters preferred front-facing ones.

But that was two years ago, and a lot has changed since then.

Don't miss

We still have smartphones with fingerprint sensors on the front, side, and back, but we also have a new breed of devices that experiment with other placements. I think we can all agree that the most exciting one is the under-display fingerprint sensor, as seen on the Vivo Nex. It may not be as fast or as accurate as traditional fingerprint sensors, but the sheer novelty of it is enough for some people to lust over that phone.

We also have Apple, who actually removed the fingerprint sensor from the iPhone X, instead opting for facial recognition. For some people, Face ID is all they need for biometric security.

Which do you prefer? Front, side, back, or under-glass fingerprint sensors, or none at all? Cast your vote in the poll attached below, and speak up in the comments if you have anything to add.
