Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models in 2018, and as per reports, one of them will feature a 6.1-inch LCD display. Famed analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has now claimed that the 6.1-inch iPhone model with the LCD display is poised to be the cheapest among the upcoming iPhone line-up and will carry a relatively lower-by-Apple-standards starting price of just $600.
The latest revelation from Kuo, whose track record related to Apple leaks has been pretty solid in the past, falls in line with an earlier report in which Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty predicted that the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone model will be the cheapest one among Apple’s 2018 line-up.
As per a report by Taiwan’s Commercial Times, Apple has signed a deal with Japan Display (JDI) to supply 6.1-inch ‘Full Active’ LCD panels for the affordable iPhone model. Moreover, the display panels ordered by Apple will reportedly feature an 18:9 aspect ratio with a Full HD+ resolution that will be surrounded by an Aluminum frame, instead of a stainless steel frame as a cost-cutting measure.
Moreover, the 6.1-inch iPhone model will reportedly feature a single rear camera to keep the production costs in check, and it will also ditch the 3D Touch feature, however, the other two iPhone models will retain it. Kuo has earlier claimed that Apple will ditch the 3D Touch technology altogether for the iPhone models scheduled to arrive in 2019.
Another major change that Apple is set to introduce this year is by adopting the USB Type-C standard for the upcoming iPhone and iPad line-up, partially though. As per a recent report, Apple might supply 18-watt chargers with USB-C to Lighting cables, meaning that the change takes place only at the end of wall adapter.
