Skateboarding isn’t quite the mainstream sport that it once was. After all, we don’t even get competent Tony Hawk games anymore. However, tons of people still enjoy it. You don’t really use a smartphone while skateboarding. Thus, there aren’t a ton of apps for it. Most skateboard apps revolve around the sport rather than being a direct part of it. There are a bunch of skateboard games, but you won’t find any here. That’s a different list. Here are the best skateboard apps for Android!

Discord

Price: Free
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Discord is a chat app for gamers. It works well for just about anything, though. You create a group, add people to it, and talk to them. This works great for keeping local skaters connected, although Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and similar apps would work as well. Whatever is the easiest, really. Keeping in contact means bigger groups at the skate park and that's always a good time. Discord, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and most chat apps are completely free. We only recommend Discord because it's much easier to keep track of a larger group with it.

Game of S.K.A.T.E.

Price: Free
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
S.K.A.T.E. is the skateboarding version of H.O.R.S.E. for basketball. One skater does a trick and the next one emulates. The first one to fail to repeat five times loses. This app keeps track of such a game. You can check off the tricks done (or failed). Plus, there's a referee mode for a bystander to judge. It's a bit simple and the UI isn't great. It does the job, though. Plus, it's completely free with no advertising. That's an excellent price tag if we do say so ourselves.

Gear shop apps

Price: Free app / Gear costs money
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Many gear brands have apps these days. We linked Zumies up there because their app is actually pretty good. However, you can find official apps for Etnies, Vans, and a bunch of others. Plus, many popular brands sell on places like Amazon, eBay, and similar online retailers. We definitely recommending trying a board in a shop before buying to make sure it feels right. These are good apps to window shop with, though. Plus, you can get stuff like cloths, shoes, pads, helmets, and other gear. They're a little difficult to find, but they exist!

Instagram, Facebook, Periscope, and similar apps

Price: Free
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Skateboarders love to showcase their talent. The best way to do that is with live streaming video. There are a variety of apps that do it. Instagram, Periscope, Facebook, and YouTube are the biggest. There are also a lot of others, including LiveStream, Twitch, and others. We mostly recommend the big three with Facebook, Instagram, and Periscope. They have excellent reach, they're easy, and you can save them to your profile when you're done. They're also completely free. You have a lot of options here and plenty of time to try them until you find one that works for you.

Skate Dice

Price: Free / $2.99
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Skate Dice is another popular game for IRL skaters. The app rolls several dice. Each dice has a trick on it. You then perform the tricks on the dice in the order specified. It's an excellent and creative way to practice tricks, transitioning from one trick to the next, and improvisation techniques. This particular app boasts various tricks, difficulty settings, and a glossary of tricks in case you don't know one. There are others on Google Play that are about as good. This isn't a type of app that many people even know about, much less download.

Skate location apps

Price: Free / Varies
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
There are a variety of skate location apps. These show you various places to skate. Google Maps is the obvious champion here. However, there are also specialized apps specifically for skaters. They vary in terms of quality, success, and even region. You may have to surf for them. Skate Spots Hunter isn't too bad and Own The Spot has a lot of potential. This seems to be a newer genre in skateboarding apps. Most of them are free, but a few of them may ask for a few bucks here or there.

YouTube

Price: Free / $12.99 per month
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
We already discussed YouTube as a platform for live streaming. However, it's also good for a lot of other things. Many pro and amateur skaters and coaches have YouTube channels. You can find things like trick tutorials, awesome highlight videos, and you can keep up with a lot of your favorite skaters. Of course, you can always upload your own stuff as well. This one is kind of obvious. We're sorry if it seems like a weak option, but there really isn't another app on Google Play that does this so YouTube it is!

The mini-games can potentially include things like discounts on gear and other such things. There are a bunch of local shops there as well.
